These apple rolls are so easy to make and only require four ingredients! These puff pastry rolls are filled with apples and garnished with cinnamon and sugar, making them a wonderful dessert to make in Autumn when apples are at their best.

To make these apple rolls, sliced apples are placed on top of a sheet of puff pastry before it is rolled up and sliced into rounds. Then, the rounds are garnished with cinnamon and sugar before being baked in the oven. The resulting pastries are wonderful served with cups of tea and a dusting of icing sugar.

What are Apple Rolls?

These apple rolls are a puff pastry dessert comprising apples, cinnamon, and sugar. Similar to cinnamon buns, the pastry is rolled up with its filling before being sliced and baked. These apple rolls are much faster to make, though, as you can use store-bought puff pastry and they only need 25 minutes in the oven.

Pro Tips

  • Choose whatever type of apple you like the best that will hold its shape well in the oven. Macintosh, spartan, Honeycrisp, granny smith, or pink lady are all excellent options.
  • Keep the puff pastry chilled in the fridge until you intend to assemble and bake the apple rolls.
  • Use a measuring tape to ensure you cut the rolls into even sizes.
  • You will know the apple rolls are properly baked when they are puffed up and golden, and the apples are tender.
  • For some crunch, feel free to add some chopped walnuts or pecans to the filling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Add Other Ingredients to the Apple Rolls?

Yes, you can! If you would like to make them a little more special, consider adding nuts like walnuts or pecans to the filling. Alternatively, you may enjoy adding sultana or golden raisins.

Do Apple Rolls Need an Egg Wash?

No, these apple rolls shouldn’t require an egg wash as the puff pastry will brown sufficiently in the oven.

Can I Assemble the Puff Pastry Pastries Ahead of Time?

Yes, you definitely could! In fact, chilling the puff pastry prior to baking it will prevent it from spreading out too much in the oven. To prevent the pastries from drying out in the fridge, you could cover them with a kitchen towel before you are ready to bake them.

How to Store Apple Rolls

These apple rolls can be stored in a container in the fridge where they will keep for up to 3 or 4 days. Since they are best served warm, you can then place them in the oven to warm them up.
