These cabbage rolls with ham and cheese offer a unique way to make cabbage rolls. While most people might be familiar with cabbage rolls that are stuffed with a meat and rice filling, this version is a little more unique as they contain ham and cheese. Containing your meat and vegetable, these cabbage rolls make a wonderful heartwarming dinner when the weather cools down.

To make the cabbage rolls with ham and cheese, blanched cabbage rolls get rolled with ham and cheese before being topped with breadcrumbs and parmesan, before being baked in the oven. The combination of textures and flavors makes these cabbage rolls so delicious!

What are Cabbage Rolls with Ham and Cheese?

These cabbage rolls with ham and cheese are a simple dish comprising only six ingredients. Similar to traditional Eastern European cabbage rolls that contain a meat and rice mixture and tomato sauce, these cabbage rolls require blanched cabbage leaves to make them pliable enough to roll with the filling. However, rather than the meat and rice filling, this version includes a ham and cheese filling, and instead of tomato sauce to coat, they have a crispy breadcrumb topping.

Pro Tips

  • Make sure you boil the cabbage leaves long enough so that they are pliable and won’t break when you roll them with the filling.
  • Choose whatever type of cheese you enjoy as long as it melts well. Mozzarella or Swiss cheese pair particularly well with the sliced ham.
  • For added flavor, feel free to toss the breadcrumbs with seasonings like minced garlic or dried herbs.
  • You will know that the cabbage rolls are adequately baked when they are very tender and their topping is golden and crispy.
