Brioche is a favorite for a reason! It is fluffy and rich tasting as it is often enriched with eggs, milk, and butter. This savory brioche roll is a take on traditional brioche containing ham and cheese. It tastes delicious on its own for a snack or as part of lunch.

To make the savory brioche roll, you make a dough with flour, yeast, milk, sugar, egg, salt, and olive oil. Then, once doubled in size, it gets rolled out, topped with ham and cheese, and rolled up in a loaf. Then, it gets set aside to double again before being garnished with sesame seeds and baked in the oven.

What is a Savory Brioche Roll?

This savory brioche roll is a bread loaf that is rolled with thinly sliced ham and cubes of cheese. Inspired by classic French brioche, it is enriched with an egg, milk, and olive oil, which helps it become extra fluffy.

Pro Tips

  • Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic for the best texture. You will know it has been kneaded enough when you can stretch a small piece to the point that it is almost see-through without it tearing.
  • If your dough isn’t rising, it may be that your kitchen is too cold. In this case, move it to a warmer location which will help it rise faster.
  • Feel free to choose whatever type of cheese you enjoy such as mozzarella, gruyere, provolone, or cheddar.
  • Allow the bread to fully cool before slicing it.
