Chipotle Mexican Grill is turning up the heat this fall with the debut of its new Red Chimichurri Sauce, a vibrant, herb-forward condiment now available at locations nationwide. The sauce marks the brand’s first new condiment release in over a year and is part of Chipotle’s ongoing push to expand flavor options while staying true to its commitment to real ingredients.
Inspired by traditional Argentinian chimichurri, the red version adds a smoky, spicy twist with ingredients like sun-dried tomatoes, garlic, paprika, crushed red pepper, and parsley, blended into a rich, tangy base. According to Chipotle’s culinary team, the sauce was developed to complement the chain’s grilled proteins—especially steak and chicken—while offering a bold new layer of flavor for burritos, bowls, tacos, and salads.
Tested, Tasted, and Approved
Before its national rollout, Red Chimichurri was tested in select markets including Atlanta and Indianapolis, where it received overwhelmingly positive feedback. In a statement from Chipotle’s newsroom, Chief Marketing Officer Chris Brandt said,
“Red Chimichurri delivers a craveable, elevated flavor experience that pairs perfectly with our responsibly sourced ingredients.”
Food editors who sampled the sauce ahead of launch described it as “zesty and smoky with a slow-building heat” (People), and “a game-changer for steak bowls” (Delish). Taste of Home noted that the sauce adds depth without overpowering other ingredients, making it a versatile addition for both spice lovers and flavor seekers.

How to Order It
Red Chimichurri is now available as an optional topping at all U.S. Chipotle locations. Customers can add it to any entrée at no extra charge, and it’s also featured in a new Red Chimichurri Steak Bowl, which includes white rice, black beans, fajita veggies, roasted chili-corn salsa, sour cream, and the new sauce.
Chipotle app users and online orders can select the sauce from the “extras” menu, and the brand is encouraging fans to share their creations on social media using the hashtag #RedChimichurriChallenge.
Fan Buzz and Flavor Innovation
The launch comes as Chipotle continues to experiment with limited-time offerings and flavor-forward menu additions. Recent hits like the Garlic Guajillo Steak and Chicken al Pastor have shown that customers are eager for bold, global-inspired tastes. Red Chimichurri builds on that momentum, offering a sauce that’s both approachable and adventurous.
Social media reactions have been enthusiastic, with TikTok user @chipotlesaucequeen posting, “Red Chimichurri is the best thing to happen to my burrito since extra cheese,” and Reddit threads already debating the best protein pairings.
