For those who prefer not to bake, this Crepe Cake Recipe is an excellent option as it doesn’t require an oven. Instead, the crepes get cooked in a pan before being layered with a delicious icing made of whipped cream and cream cheese. Slices of this cake will be wonderful served as a dessert with cups of coffee or tea.

To make this crepe cake recipe, you begin by making a chocolate crepe batter with milk, butter, cocoa powder, flour, eggs, and coffee. Then, the batter gets cooked in a non-stick pan to create several thin pancakes. After that, a icing gets made with whipped cream, sugar, vanilla, and cream cheese, which gets spread on top of each crepe as they get stacked on a plate. Finally, once icing gets spread on the top and sides of the cake, the entire dessert gets dusted with cocoa powder for an attractive finish.

What is Crepe Cake?

Crepe cake is a cake that is made by layering crepes with icing. Crepes are a wonderful French-style pancake that is thinner than traditional American pancakes. They have a light texture and golden colour that makes them delicious in a cake.

This version of crepe cake involves chocolate crepes and an icing including whipped cream and cream cheese. The rich chocolate flavor and tangy cream cheese in these crepes is a perfect combination!

Pro Tips

  • Use a non-stick skillet or crepe pan so that the crepes don’t stick to the pan.
  • When you add the batter to the pan, make sure you turn the pan quickly to ensure that the batter covers the entire pan.
  • If some of the crepes tear, you can still use them. Just make sure you layer them in the middle of the cake so that you can keep a more perfect crepe for the top.
  • For an extra beautiful presentation, feel free to garnish the cake with fresh fruit such as raspberries or cherries.

What to Serve with Crepe Cake?

Simply serve this crepe cake with a cup of tea or coffee, and you will be good to go! However, if you would like to make this dessert a little extra special, you can serve it with fresh fruit such as berries or cherries.

Can I Make Plain Crepes Rather Than Chocolate Ones?

Yes, if you would prefer to make plain crepe, simply omit the cocoa powder and coffee in the batter.

Can I Make Crepe Cake Ahead of Time?

You will know the crepes are ready to flip when they are solid around the edges and bubbling on top. This process will be quite quick as the crepes only need 1 minute to cook per side.
