McDonald’s is officially dropping one of the most unexpected pop-culture crossovers in fast-food history. This week, the Golden Arches confirmed that Hello Kitty & Friends x Godzilla is heading to Happy Meals nationwide. Slated to land at participating U.S. restaurants on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the limited-time promotion brings Sanrio’s iconic pastel world together with Toho’s legendary monster universe for a uniquely adorable drop. The release marks McDonald's latest effort to turn everyday kids' meals into high-demand pop-culture collectibles for fans of all ages.
The 8-Toy Roster and Custom Box
The nationwide promotion features eight exclusive mashup toys, each pairing a beloved Sanrio character with a classic monster from the Godzilla cinematic universe. Rather than simple printed graphics, each figure redesigns the characters into kaiju-inspired costumes, complete with custom headpieces and textured scales. The full eight-toy collection includes:
- Hello Kitty x Godzilla: Sanrio's flagship mascot dressed in Godzilla’s iconic spiky suit.
- My Melody x Mothra: The sweet pink-gowned mascot taking flight with Mothra’s signature butterfly wings.
- Kuromi x Mechagodzilla: Sanrio's favorite mischievous character fused with the metallic monster.
- Keroppi x King Ghidorah: The cheerful frog sporting three heads inspired by the iconic golden dragon.
- Badtz-Maru x Rodan: The sarcastic penguin taking to the skies as the fiery pterosaur.
- Cinnamoroll x Destoroyah: The sweet, flop-eared puppy getting a surprisingly dark monster makeover.
- Chococat x Spacegodzilla: The black cat rocking cosmic crystalline shoulder spikes.
- Pompompurin x Gigan: The golden retriever outfitted with scythe-like monster appendages.
Beyond the standalone toys, each meal arrives packaged inside a limited-edition Godzilla-themed Happy Meal box featuring custom artwork celebrating the monster mashup.
A Hall of Fame Pop-Culture Mashup
Sanrio crossovers have become a massive driver for McDonald’s in recent years, following hugely successful global partnerships with Yu-Gi-Oh! in 2024 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 2025. Adding Toho’s legendary Godzilla franchise to the lineup elevates the nostalgia factor for anime fans, film buffs, and toy collectors alike.
"One of the best collections of Happy Meal toys I've ever seen is about to drop at McDonald's US," shared Guillaume Huin, Senior Marketing Director at McDonald's, ahead of the official reveal. "Hall of fame collectibles in the making."
Due to expected high demand from both Sanrio enthusiasts and Kaiju collectors, McDonald’s recommends visiting participating locations early starting August 18, as supplies will strictly be available while supplies last.
