Deep Fried Camembert is a simple yet flavorful recipe featuring this soft, bloomy-rind cheese, typical of Normandy, very similar in flavor and texture to brie. In our recipe, the Camembert, cut into eight even triangles, is double-coated with flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs, then dipped in boiling seed oil until golden and crispy on the outside and creamy and melting in the center.

Perfect to bring to the table at the beginning of a meal or at brunch time together with a glass of chilled prosecco, fried camembert can also be served as a substantial course accompanied during Thanksgiving or holiday parties by a bowl of mixed salad or a portion of grilled vegetables.

How to Make Deep Fried Camembert

To prepare the deep fried Camembert, first place the cheese wheel on a cutting board.

Cut the Camembert into 8 regular triangles.

Dip each wedge of cheese in the flour.

Dip it in the beaten eggs.

Coat it in breadcrumbs.

Then proceed with a double breading and pass the breaded cheese triangles again in the beaten egg before and then in breadcrumbs.

As they are ready, arrange the cheese triangles on a plate, then let them harden in the freezer for about 30 minutes.

Once the resting time has elapsed, dip the Camembert in plenty of boiling seed oil.

Let the cheese cook for 1-2 minutes, or until golden and crispy on the surface, then remove it with a slotted spoon and drain it on a sheet of paper towels.

Transfer the fried Camembert to a serving plate and enjoy it immediately, hot and stringy.

What Sauce Can Go With Deep Fried Camembert?

If you like, you can finish the deep fried Camembert with a drizzle of warm honey or a cranberry coulis, or you can mix the breadcrumbs with spices and herbs of your choice, such as sweet paprika, ground pepper, chopped rosemary, or sprigs of thyme.

Can I Make Deep Fried Camembert in The Air Fryer?

Yes, with a few key steps. The cheese needs to be well breaded and frozen first (at least 30–60 minutes) so it doesn’t melt and leak before the coating crisps. Once frozen, air-fry at 375°F (190°C) for 6–8 minutes, turning once, until golden outside and molten inside, then let it rest briefly before serving.
