After half a decade of impassioned pleas, petitions, and social media campaigns, KFC is officially bringing back its beloved Potato Wedges. Starting August 18, the seasoned, thick-cut spuds will return to menus nationwide alongside another fan favorite: Hot & Spicy Wings. The announcement, delivered with the cheeky caption “HERE, DAMN.” on social media, marks a major moment in the brand’s ongoing “Kentucky Fried Comeback” campaign.
Originally introduced in the mid-1990s, KFC’s Potato Wedges quickly earned cult status for their crispy exterior, fluffy interior, and bold seasoning. But in 2020, they were controversially replaced by the chain’s Secret Recipe Fries, sparking outrage among loyal wedge-lovers. Thousands took to Twitter, Reddit, and even Change.org to demand their return. And now, KFC is finally listening.
Fans Made It Happen
According to KFC U.S. President Catherine Tan-Gillespie, the decision was driven by “obsessive demand” from customers. “Wedge-lovers, we heard you—and we agree it’s been five long years without wedges,” she said in a press release. “This isn’t just a nostalgic nod. It’s an example of how we’re turning feedback into action.”
Earlier this year, KFC tested a limited wedge release in Tampa, Florida, which sold out within hours. That success paved the way for a full-scale relaunch, proving that the appetite for wedges was not only real—it was ravenous.
Wings and Wedges Combo
To celebrate the return, KFC is launching a new Wings & Wedges Combo, featuring six Hot & Spicy Wings, a side of Potato Wedges, and a medium drink. Customers can also order wedges as a standalone side or substitute them for any other side item. And for those who still prefer fries—don’t worry. The Secret Recipe Fries aren’t going anywhere.
KFC is also rolling out a series of deals to coincide with the relaunch, including:
- A $3.99 Chicken Sandwich deal starting August 18
- A $20 Wings & Wedges Fan Favorites Box featuring 10 wings, 12 nuggets, wedges, biscuits, and sauces
- A digital-exclusive 20 Wings for $20 offer launching September 4
- The return of $10 Tuesdays, offering eight pieces of chicken or tenders for just ten bucks.
