McDonald’s is returning the iconic McRib sandwich on October 27, 2026, kicking off a limited regional rollout across six major metropolitan markets.

One of the most elusive and celebrated limited-time offerings in fast-food history is officially heading back to the golden arches.

Starting Tuesday, October 27, 2026, McDonald's will begin rolling out the legendary McRib for a limited seasonal run. Despite embarking on a widely publicized "Farewell Tour" back in 2022, the brand continues its autumn tradition of resurrecting the cult-favorite sandwich, sending barbecue enthusiasts across the country on an annual pilgrimage to track down participating restaurants.

A Staggered Regional Release Across Six Major Cities

Unlike full-scale nationwide drops, McDonald's is maintaining scarcity for the 2026 autumn release by launching the sandwich in select metropolitan markets first. Early availability beginning October 27 is confirmed for participating restaurants in Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Dallas.

Additional regional markets and participating franchise co-ops—including select locations across Michigan—are slated to activate availability over late October and early November, with secondary waves expected to run through late November 2026. Because availability is determined by local franchisee cooperatives rather than an across-the-board national mandate, diners will once again rely on the McDonald's mobile app and community tools like the fan-run McRib Locator to confirm participating stores.

The Anatomy Of An Unchanged Fast Food Classic

First introduced in 1981 in the Kansas City area, the sandwich has retained its signature recipe and presentation for over four decades.

The build centers on a seasoned, boneless pork patty molded into the shape of a miniature rack of ribs. Before assembly, the patty is thoroughly drenched in tangy, smoky barbecue sauce, nestled inside a toasted, cornmeal-dusted homestyle hoagie bun, and finished with crisp slivered white onions and tart dill pickle slices.

The McRib typically remains on menus for roughly three to four weeks in each market before disappearing back into the corporate vault.
