Why Everyone Will Love This Recipe

This peach strudel offers the perfect contrast between textures: a crisp golden exterior and a soft, fragrant filling inside. The combination of juicy peaches, sweet raisins, crunchy pine nuts, and warm cinnamon creates a comforting flavor that feels both classic and fresh.

It’s also simple to prepare thanks to ready-made puff pastry, making it an ideal dessert when you want something impressive without spending hours in the kitchen.

What Is Peach Strudel?

Strudel is a traditional Central European pastry most famously associated with Austrian cuisine, although its origins are influenced by earlier pastry traditions from the Ottoman Empire and the Balkans. The name comes from the German word Strudel, meaning “whirlpool,” referring to the rolled appearance of the pastry.

The most famous version is apple strudel (Apfelstrudel), which became popular in Austria during the 18th century. Over time, many variations developed using seasonal fruits such as cherries, berries, and peaches. This peach version combines the classic idea of fruit-filled pastry with Mediterranean ingredients like pine nuts, lemon, and cinnamon.

Cooking Tips

  • Soak the raisins before adding them to the filling because this softens their texture and helps them blend better with the juicy peaches.
  • Choose ripe but firm peaches because they provide natural sweetness while maintaining their shape during baking without releasing too much liquid.
  • Let the peach filling rest before assembling the strudel so the flavors can combine and any excess fruit juice can develop before baking.
  • Add breadcrumbs beneath the filling if desired because they help absorb extra moisture from the fruit and keep the pastry crisp.
  • Avoid overfilling the puff pastry because too much filling can prevent the strudel from sealing properly and may cause the pastry to open during baking.
  • Seal the pastry edges carefully before baking to keep the filling inside and create a neat, golden strudel shape.
  • Allow the strudel to cool slightly before slicing because this helps the filling set and makes cleaner cuts easier.

How to Store
