Taco Bell is making beverage history with the launch of Mountain Dew Baja Midnight, the first permanent expansion of its iconic Baja Blast line in two decades. Dropping nationwide on August 14, the new flavor blends the signature tropical lime base of Baja Blast with a punchy twist of passion fruit, resulting in a deep purple soda designed to satisfy late-night cravings and Gen Z palates.
The drink will be available in two formats:
- Mountain Dew Baja Midnight (fountain soda)
- Baja Midnight Freeze, a frozen version offered for a limited time
Prices start at $2.49 for a small soda and $3.79 for a regular Freeze. And for Taco Bell Rewards members, a free medium Baja Midnight is up for grabs on August 15 with any $5 in-app purchase2.
Why Baja Midnight?
Since its debut in 2004, Baja Blast has become a cornerstone of Taco Bell’s brand identity, inspiring everything from gelato and pies to limited-edition Stanley tumblers. According to Taco Bell’s Chief Marketing Officer Taylor Montgomery, the new flavor was “intentionally crafted to build on the legacy of Baja Blast and evolve for modern tastebuds.” The goal? To create a drink that pairs perfectly with everything from bean burritos to spicy chicken tacos.

The launch was first teased at Taco Bell’s Live Más Live summit in March, where superfans and creators got a sneak peek at upcoming innovations. Baja Midnight was one of the most anticipated reveals, and the brand is betting big on its success.
A Flavor Built for the Night
The name “Midnight” isn’t just a nod to the color—it’s a vibe. Taco Bell describes the drink as “unexpected,” “Taco Bell purple,” and “tasty enough to earn its place in the fandom.” The flavor profile leans fruit-forward, with the passion fruit adding a sweet-tart complexity that complements the lime base. It’s designed to be bold, refreshing, and craveable—especially during those late-night snack runs.
What’s Next for Baja Blast?
With the success of Baja Midnight, Taco Bell is hinting at more Baja-inspired menu items to come. A Baja Blast Pie is reportedly in development, following last year’s gelato release. The brand is also expanding its beverage footprint with Live Más Café locations, aiming to make drinks a bigger part of the Taco Bell experience
