If there are two things Taco Bell fans are fiercely loyal to, it is the legendary Mexican Pizza and the premium Cantina Chicken menu. Since its debut in early 2024, the Cantina Chicken lineup has been a massive hit, proving that fast-food fans are willing to pay a little extra for slow-roasted, high-quality proteins. Now, on May 14, 2026, Taco Bell has officially announced the ultimate mashup: the Cantina Chicken Mexican Pizza.

This isn't a simple "shredded chicken" swap. Taco Bell is treating this as a high-end overhaul of the 1985 classic, introducing new textures and ingredients that move the dish away from "fast food" and closer to "fast-casual" quality. It is a strategic move to capture the Gen Z audience that demands bolder, fresher flavors without sacrificing the nostalgic comfort of a classic tortilla shell.

The Architecture of the "New" Pizza

The foundation of the pizza remains the same—two crispy flour shells—but everything inside and on top has been upgraded.

  • The Protein & Base: Between the shells, you’ll find a layer of black beans and the signature slow-roasted Cantina Chicken, which is marinated in a blend of garlic, onion, and various chilies.
  • The Sauce: Instead of the traditional red pizza sauce, this version uses a vibrant green chile sauce paired with a three-cheese blend.
  • The Fresh Toppings: To provide a bright, crunchy contrast to the melted cheese, the pizza is topped with shredded purple cabbage and pico de gallo.

The result is a visually striking dish that looks much more "garden-fresh" than the original beef version. To complete the experience, every order includes a packet of the brand-new Jalapeño Citrus Salsa. This sweet-and-spicy sauce is made with red jalapeños and guajillo chiles, specifically designed to cut through the richness of the cheese.

The Rollout

If you want to be among the first to try it, you’ll need the Taco Bell app. The launch is split into two phases:

  • Early Access (May 19–20): Taco Bell Rewards Members can order the pizza exclusively via the app for two days before the general public.
  • National Launch (May 21): The pizza becomes a permanent menu item (for a limited time) at all participating U.S. locations.

Pricing and Value

The Cantina Chicken Mexican Pizza carries a Suggested Retail Price (SRP) of $6.49. While this is a premium compared to the standard beef version, it reflects the higher cost of the slow-roasted chicken and fresh produce. For those looking for the full experience, the Cantina Chicken Discovery Box (approximately $9.99) is also returning to menus, which typically includes the pizza along with other Cantina-style favorites.
