The world's best pizzeria of 2026 isn't in Italy: to taste the one that took first place in the new 50 Top Pizza World, you'll have to go to London, where Michele Pascarella‘s Napoli on the Road topped the international rankings. Naturally, we're talking about a pizza chef originally from Maddaloni, in the province of Caserta, who brought his pizza to the United Kingdom, where he now has two highly successful locations.
To find the first restaurant based in Italy, however, you have to go down to third place. After Napoli on the Road, second place is occupied by Anthony Mangieri‘s Una Pizza Napoletana in New York; completing the podium is Confine, the project founded by pizza chef Francesco Capece together with his partner and sommelier Mario Ventura.
The new ranking, announced at the Teatro Mercadante in Naples, once again captures a sector that has now reached a truly international level. Thirty-six countries are represented in the ranking , and despite its top spot, Italy remains the nation with the highest number of pizzerias: 31, compared to 22 in the United States and six in Brazil. The results change when looking at cities: New York leads with seven establishments, ahead of Naples with six and São Paulo with five.
The Podium
Taking first place is Napoli on the Road by Michele Pascarella, a pizza chef from Caserta who started his business in London after moving to the UK at a young age. He started selling pizza on the street, then opened restaurants in the British capital, and earned a series of awards that have gradually propelled him to the top of the international rankings. In second place is Anthony Mangieri's Una Pizza Napoletana in New York, while Confine takes Milan to third place. Francesco Capece and Mario Ventura's restaurant achieves this global success after having won first place in the 50 Top Pizza Italia 2026 list just a few weeks earlier.
Just off the podium is one of the names that has been a constant presence at the top of the rankings in recent years: Francesco Martucci with I Masanielli of Caserta, tied for fourth place with Seu Pizza Illuminati of Rome. In fifth place, still tied, are two American establishments: Pizzeria Sei of Los Angeles and Tony's Pizza Napoletana of San Francisco. The top five spots therefore show a very strong Italian presence, even if first place doesn't go to a pizzeria in Italy.

What Has Changed Compared to Previous Years
Compared to 2025, several positions at the top of the rankings have changed. Last year, first place was tied between Francesco Martucci‘s I Masanielli, in Caserta, and Anthony Mangieri‘s Una Pizza Napoletana, in New York. In 2026, Una Pizza Napoletana drops to second place, while I Masanielli moves up to fourth, tied with Seu Pizza Illuminati of Rome, which was sixth last year.
The real news is the first place for Michele Pascarella's Napoli on the Road, which was fifth in 2025. Confine di Milano also climbed from last year's joint fourth place to third. Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria, which tied for fourth with Confine in 2025, did not appear in the World 2026 ranking. With the increase in the number of locations, the brand now falls into the artisanal chain category and will be evaluated in the dedicated ranking, the 50 Top World Artisan Pizza Chains.
Among other changes in the top 10, The Pizza Bar on 38th in Tokyo jumps from second to ninth place and Leggera Pizza Napoletana in São Paulo from third to sixth. Pizzeria Sei in Los Angeles and Tony's Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco move up to ninth and tenth place, respectively, in 2025, sharing fifth place this year. Baldoria in Madrid holds steady at eighth place.
Italy Remains The Country With the Highest Number of Participants in The Rankings
While first place eludes Italian-based establishments, the Italian presence remains strong throughout the rest of the ranking. After Confine in third place, two Italian pizzerias tied for fourth place: I Masanielli di Francesco Martucci in Caserta and Seu Pizza Illuminati in Rome. Scrolling down the ranking, other Italian pizzerias in the top 50 include Palazzo Petrucci Pizzeria in Naples (12th), I Tigli in San Bonifacio (13th), 50 Kalò in Naples (14th), Avenida Calò in Rome (15th), and Dry Milano (18th). They are followed by Cambia-Menti (19th) and Sasà Martucci (20th) in Caserta, BOB Alchimia a Spicchi in Montepaone Lido (21st), La Cascina dei Sapori in Rezzato (40th), and La Notizia in Naples (43rd).
In total, 31 Italian-based pizzerias are present at World 2026, the highest number of any country represented. Added to these are numerous establishments run or founded by Italians abroad, starting with Napoli on the Road in London.
The geography of the top 10, however, shows how much the competition has broadened: in addition to Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States, Brazil, Japan, and Spain also appear. Tokyo, in particular, boasts two establishments in the top ten: RistoPizza by Napoli is in seventh place and The Pizza Bar on 38th is in ninth.
