Tillamook is settling one of the internet’s most delicious debates—should you use butter or mayonnaise on your grilled cheese?—with the release of Butternaise, a first-of-its-kind hybrid spread designed specifically to elevate grilled cheese sandwiches. The product officially launches on November 6, 2025, and is available exclusively through Tillamook’s online store.

What Is Butternaise?

Butternaise is a silky, spreadable blend of:

  • Tillamook Extra Creamy Unsalted Butter
  • Kewpie Organic Mayonnaise
  • Zesty spices for added flavor and browning

The result is a rich, golden crust and a deeply savory finish when grilled—ideal for sandwich lovers who want the best of both worlds.

Why It Works

According to Tillamook’s Executive Chef Josh Archibald, Butternaise was developed to meet the brand’s “gold standard” for grilled cheese. The butter provides richness and crispness, while the mayo adds tang and helps achieve an even browning. It’s designed to be liberally lathered on bread before grilling, but can also be used for pan-searing, roasting vegetables, or adding depth to sauces.

  • Two packs of Tillamook cheese slices
  • One branded spreader
  • Optional merch and specialty cheeses

Orders ship via UPS Monday through Wednesday, and quantities are limited.

Fan Buzz

Food reviewers are calling it “a game-changer for grilled cheese lovers,” and early testers praise its smooth texture, balanced flavor, and no-fuss application. The launch coincides with National Sandwich Day, making it a timely addition to the comfort food season.
