Wendy’s has confirmed that its Sweet and Sour Sauce will return to menus in spring 2026, just months after the fan‑favorite condiment was discontinued. The comeback follows significant customer backlash and widespread social media demand, prompting the chain to reverse course sooner than expected.
Why the Sauce Was Removed
The Sweet and Sour Sauce was taken off Wendy’s menus in September 2025, when the chain launched its revamped Chicken Tenders (“Tendys”) and introduced six new, larger dipping sauces. According to People and USA Today, the rollout replaced several existing sauces, including Sweet and Sour, which sparked immediate disappointment among longtime customers.
What Prompted the Comeback
Wendy’s says the decision to bring the sauce back was driven by “hundreds of comments across social media” from customers upset about its removal. Southern Living reports that the brand acknowledged the feedback directly, saying, “We’ve heard the feedback… and we’re making it right.”
Wendy’s also partnered with creator Jaz Smith, a known Sweet and Sour superfan, to help announce the sauce’s return on social platforms.
In addition, USA Today notes that Wendy’s commissioned a survey of 1,000 Americans who eat chicken tenders or nuggets. The results showed:
- 77% of respondents said sauce “makes the meal.”
- 9 in 10 Americans regularly use dipping sauces.
These findings reinforced the decision to restore the popular condiment.
