Amazon has officially replaced Grubhub with Uber Eats as the exclusive restaurant delivery partner for its U.S. Prime members, marking a major strategic shift in the food delivery wars just ahead of the holiday shopping season.
In a surprise corporate announcement, the retail giant revealed that its commercial agreement with Grubhub had officially expired, transitioning its active in-app restaurant service over to Uber Eats. Moving forward, Amazon Prime members across the country can now order from hundreds of thousands of local restaurants and national dining chains directly on Amazon’s website or through the Amazon Shopping app, powered entirely by the massive Uber Eats logistics network.
Seamless In App Ordering Replaces Standard Delivery Fees
The newly minted partnership allows Prime subscribers located in nearly 10,000 U.S. cities and towns—ranging from major metropolitan hubs like Los Angeles to rural communities like Berkeley Springs, West Virginia—to enjoy a waived $0 delivery fee on Uber Eats restaurant orders totaling $25 or more.
To streamline the consumer checkout experience, Amazon fully integrated the ordering system directly into its own digital ecosystem. Prime members do not need to download the standalone Uber Eats mobile app or create a separate Uber account; instead, they can simply search for "Uber Eats" on Amazon, browse local restaurant menus, and seamlessly check out using their existing saved Amazon payment methods. Amazon handles the email and push notifications for delivery status tracking, while Uber Eats manages final merchant confirmations.
Introductory Food Credits Drive Immediate Adoption
To drive immediate consumer adoption, Amazon and Uber Eats rolled out several aggressive introductory promotions. For the first 14 days of the new partnership, Prime members are eligible to receive $20 off their first two Uber Eats orders of $25 or more, totaling up to $40 in free food credit. Additionally, Prime Visa cardholders will earn a boosted 5 percent cash back on all Uber Eats orders placed through the integrated platform until December 5, 2026.
While existing users with active Grubhub+ benefits retain access through December 31, 2027, Amazon executives estimate the combined value of waived delivery fees and exclusive Uber promotions will ultimately save frequent diners an average of over $175 annually.
