Vanilla is one of the most fragrant spices in existence, and also one of the most expensive. For this reason, after using the inside of the bean pod, don't throw away the seedless outer pod; you can still reuse it to harness its aromatic power. We're here to show you three brilliant ways to recycle the vanilla bean pod. These small tricks will allow you to fully utilize this spice: with the pod, you can flavor foods and create an aromatic powder for your desserts. So, don't throw away your vanilla pod after the first use. Here's how to reuse it properly.
1. Use It for An Infusion

You can use the pod to infuse in milk or to make creams, which you can then use to fill cakes and desserts in general: it will still release a pleasant vanilla aroma. Add 1 vanilla bean pod directly to the milk, after heating it without boiling it; let it infuse for a few minutes, stirring occasionally. The milk will be fragrant and have a delicate vanilla flavor.
2. Use It to Flavor Sugar

You can use the vanilla bean pod to flavor sugar: just wash it well, let it dry for a few hours, and add it to a jar with 1 kg of sugar. Leave the vanilla bean in the jar with the sugar for a week, making sure the jar is tightly closed: you will have obtained a super-scented vanilla sugar. You can then use it to sweeten coffee, tea, or herbal tea.
3. Use It to Make a Vanilla Powder

Once you've collected more vanilla bean pods, you can dry them in the oven and grind them with a spice grinder: this will give you a vanilla powder, ready to use to flavor your desserts. Store it in an airtight glass jar so you have it available when you need it.
