Jersey Mike’s Dethrones Chick-fil-A After 11-Year Reign as Favorite US Fast Food

For the first time in over a decade, Chick-fil-A has lost its crown as America's favorite fast-food chain, edged out by Jersey Mike's in the 2026 ACSI study.

For more than a decade, one fundamental truth united the American fast-food landscape: no matter how intense the chicken sandwich wars became, Chick-fil-A reigned supreme in customer satisfaction. The brand's pristine customer service and signature “my pleasure” ethos kept it locked in the number-one spot for 11 consecutive years. But a historic upset has officially broken the streak.

According to the newly released 2026 American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) Restaurant and Food Delivery Study, a new champion has climbed the mountain. New Jersey-born sandwich empire Jersey Mike’s Subs has officially dethroned Chick-fil-A to become America's top-rated quick-service restaurant chain.

The 2026 Scores

The comprehensive study, built upon 16,464 customer surveys collected at random between April 2025 and March 2026, tracked a highly demanding macroeconomic environment. While the overall quick-service industry score remained perfectly flat at 79 out of 100 for the third consecutive year, the movement among specific brands was fierce.

Jersey Mike’s capitalized on its debut in the individual index rankings by scoring an industry-leading 84 out of 100, edging past Chick-fil-A's steady score of 83 by a single, dramatic point.

The 2026 ACSI Quick-Service National Standings

  1. Jersey Mike's Subs: 84
  2. Chick-fil-A: 83
  3. Jimmy John's: 81 (tie)
  4. Panda Express: 81 (tie)
  5. KFC: 80 (tie)
  6. Papa Johns: 80 (tie)
  7. Pizza Hut: 80 (tie)
  8. Domino's: 79 (tie)
  9. Raising Cane's: 79 (tie)
  10. Starbucks: 79 (tie)
  11. Subway: 79 (tie)

At the absolute bottom of the major corporate rankings, legacy giants McDonald's and Dairy Queen found themselves tied for last place, both scoring a 72.

The Secret Sauce Behind Jersey Mike’s Metric Rise

Unseating a cultural juggernaut like Chick-fil-A isn't an overnight fluke. ACSI researchers and industry analysts point to a highly calculated mix of operational precision, rapid footprint scaling, and consumer value perception that drove Jersey Mike's to the top.

  1. Freshness & Customization: Customers heavily praised the chain's made-to-order assembly model, where premium meats and cheeses are sliced directly in front of the diner and dressed "Mike's Way" with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, red wine vinegar, olive oil, and spices.
  2. Aggressive, Smart Scaling: Under the direction of CEO Charlie Morrison and visionary founder Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike's has expanded rapidly, adding 238 net new locations over a single calendar stretch to push its presence past 3,000 storefronts. This expansion fueled a massive $4.2 billion in systemwide sales.
  3. Corporate Backing: The momentum follows a massive corporate milestone from late 2024, where private equity powerhouse Blackstone acquired a majority stake in Jersey Mike’s in a blockbuster deal valued at roughly $8 billion, giving the brand the heavy-duty financial runway required to scale aggressively.

“Restaurant industry-level scores are stable, but there's real movement underneath,” explained Forrest Morgeson, Associate Professor of Marketing at Michigan State University and Director of Research Emeritus at the ACSI. “New brands are entering our rankings and immediately competing at the top, which tells you something about where consumer expectations are headed. Price still matters, but it's no longer enough on its own.”

Silver Linings for the Chicken King

While losing the overall crown marks the end of an era for Chick-fil-A corporate headquarters, the chicken giant isn't exactly in a tailspin. The 2026 data shows that Chick-fil-A’s customer satisfaction score didn't actually drop—it held perfectly steady at 83. It was simply a case of Jersey Mike's out-pacing the field during its inaugural inclusion in the individual rankings.

Furthermore, Chick-fil-A remains the undisputed king of the fast-food chicken sector specifically, comfortably fending off a rising class of competitors that includes a surging KFC (which climbed 4% to an 80) and new index entries like Raising Cane's (79) and Wingstop (77).

As menu price inflation continues to outpace traffic growth across the wider restaurant industry, consumers are becoming increasingly selective about where they deploy their dining dollars. For right now, the consensus across America is clear: the freshest experience in the drive-thru lane is currently being served on a sub roll.
