These two tone fried flowers are impressive to look at and full of the taste of cocoa and hazelnut cream. Fried to a gorgeous golden brown, they have crisp edges and look just like flowers with a two tone effect from both plain dough and chocolate dough.

To make the two tone fried flowers, you first make a dough by mixing flour with salt, oil, baking powder, and eggs before dividing it in half and mixing half of it with cocoa powder to create a chocolate dough. Then, the dough gets arranged into flowers before they are fried in oil. Topped with some hazelnut cream and dusted with powdered sugar, they will be sure to impress anyone you serve them to.

What are Two Tone Fried Flowers?

These two tone fried flowers are fried dough containing both plain and chocolate doughs. They are fried to a golden color, topped with hazelnut cream, and dusted with powdered sugar.

Pro Tips

  • Allow the dough to rest for at least 20 minutes which will help the gluten to relax, resulting in more tender pastries.
  • Use toothpicks to hold the flowers together during the frying process.
  • The ideal temperature for frying the flowers is around 350 F (177 C).
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the flowers from the oil so the excess oil can drain off.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Make Two Tone Fried Flowers Nut-Free?

Absolutely! If you need a nut-free recipe, you could replace the hazelnut cream with your favorite jam such as raspberry jam, strawberry jam, or marmalade which all taste delicious with chocolate.

What is the Best Temperature for Frying?

The ideal temperature for frying the two tone fried flowers is around 350 F (177 C). A higher temperature would result in the pastries browning too much before they cook through whereas a lower temperature would result in the pastries absorbing too much oil.

How Can I Warm Up the Two Tone Fried Flowers?

If you have some two tone fried flowers left over the next day, you can warm them up in an oven which will help re-crisp them.

How to Store the Two Tone Fried Flowers

The leftover pastries can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 to 3 days but they will be best the initial day they are made as they will become softer as they sit.
