We always love a good flatbread. They’re versatile and such a delicious addition to any meal. But don’t think that it takes a lot of effort. Making them from scratch is easier than you might think. This 5 Ingredient Bread in a Pan is made without yeast and instead uses baking soda and yogurt as rising agents. Pan-baking the flatbread gives it a crispy crust, and you don’t need an oven. These breads are perfect for dipping, wrapping, or simply enjoying on their own. Serve them with hummus, soup, or a rich, saucy stew. It’s the perfect side dish for any meal!

Tips

  • If you want to make smaller breads, you can do so by dividing the dough into smaller pieces.
  • You can also use this dough to make pizza! Use full-fat Greek yogurt for the best results.
  • A heavy-bottomed pan (like cast iron) will work best for this recipe as it retains heat well. This is necessary for the thick flatbreads to be cooked thoroughly.
  • The thickness of the buns determines the texture! Thinner buns will be crispier, while thicker buns will be slightly chewier and fluffier.
  • For a stretchy cheese, use mozzarella instead of cheddar.

How to Store 5 Ingredient Bread in a Pan

Store the cooked bread in an airtight container (at room temperature) for up to two days.

Can You Freeze 5 Ingredient Bread in a Pan

Instructions

In a bowl, combine Greek yogurt with baking soda, and mix. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and set aside for 15 minutes.

After the resting period, add an egg, a teaspoon of salt, and olive oil to the same bowl. Mix to combine.

Add flour and mix, then knead to form a smooth dough.

Transfer the dough to the working surface sprinkled with some flour, form a ball, and let sit for 15 minutes covered with a kitchen cloth.

Cut the dough into 5 equal pieces and form each piece into a ball. Cover balls with a kitchen cloth and leave for 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, in a separate bowl combine shredded cheese, chopped string cheese, and remaining egg. Mix well and set aside.

Take one of the dough balls and flatten it into a thin round. Put a spoonful of cheese mixture in the center.

Wrap the filling with the edges of the dough

Then, pinch the seams together.

Place the ball seam side down and roll it with a pin into a circle shape.

Set aside and continue with the rest of the balls.

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Once the skillet is hot, add flattened bread and cook for about 3 minutes.

Then flip and cook the other side for another 3 minutes.

Remove from heat, brush with some butter, and serve warm!

Enjoy!
