Camembert is a soft, creamy, surface-ripened cow's milk cheese. Baked camembert is often served as an appetizer or starter. Once baked, this delicious cow’s milk cheese becomes soft and creamy—perfect for serving as a rich cheesy dip.

This baked camembert with honey is an easy appetizer recipe, and with the honey and walnuts, it’s a loaded variation of regular baked camembert. Walnuts add crunch and honey adds a touch of sweetness which balances out the melty cheesiness.

While the dish looks quite impressive, it’s relatively simple to make. Sprinkle the camembert with walnuts, honey, garlic, and seasoning, and bake. It couldn't be easier.

How To Make Baked Camembert With Honey

Use a sharp knife to make small grid-shaped cuts in Camembert cheese. This will help the seasoning and honey to draw into the cheese while it melts. It also allows air to escape while the cheese bakes.

Drizzle the cheese with honey, then add the walnuts, salt, rosemary, and slices of garlic. Bake for about 15-20 minutes at 180ºC (350ºF). You don’t want to bake the cheese any longer than that, otherwise it will harden. You just want to bake it long enough for the cheese to melt.

Tips For Making Baked Camembert With Honey And Walnuts

If you can’t find Camembert in a store near you, you can also use Brie cheese. Both are made using cow’s milk, but Brie contains more cream, making it taste slightly more buttery and creamy. The flavor will be less nutty than that of Camembert.

Because the cheese is mild, it’s best to season the surface well with salt and pepper.

You can drizzle the honey over the cheese or brush it over the cheese with a silicon brush.

Camembert is usually sold in a wooden box. If the cheese you find does not have a wooden box, then you can either bake it in a small, round baking dish or wrap the cheese with aluminium foil.

Alternatively, for a rusty look, bake it in a cast iron pan that’s slightly bigger than the cheese wheel.

Baked Camembert Topping Ideas

Don’t like honey? You can substitute it with maple syrup or golden syrup. You can also add a fruit jam (apricot, raspberry, strawberry, or apple) or marmalade. If using a fruit jam, leave out the honey, otherwise, it will be too sweet.

If you prefer it without any sweetness,  leave out the sweetener and use extra virgin olive oil instead.

Add dried chili flakes to add a touch of color and spiciness.

You can leave out the rosemary and use other herbs instead: thyme or oregano will both work.

Instead of walnuts, you can use pecans, almonds, or even pine nuts.

What To Serve With Baked Camembert With Honey And Walnuts.

The Baked Camembert goes well with fresh, crusty bread or crackers. Add fresh fruits and a few deli meats, and you have a whole cheese platter. If you want to serve wine with it, choose a light white wine or go for Champagne!

How To Store Baked Camembert With Honey

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a day, and reheat in the oven.
