If you have wonton wrappers laying around, but don’t feel like making something savory, why not make these sweet Banana Wontons. It’s an easy dessert recipe inspired to create a classic wonton look. Each bite is crunchy and crispy on the outside, and creamy on the inside.

To make it you only need a handful of ingredients: a banana, hazelnut cream, wonton wrappers and egg. Fill the wrappers with the banana and cream, fold, and fry. It’s as easy as that.

Perfect for those times when you crave something sweet, but don’t have any baking ingredients on hand. It’s a great recipe for customizing as you want, and will be perfect for serving at your next party!

Tips

You can also bake these Banana Wontons! Place the triangles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (or use a silicone mat). Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes until golden. To Airfry the banana wontons, cook them in a preheated Airfryer for 5 minutes until crispy.

Can’t find wonton wrappers? You can also use spring rolls wrappers (egg roll wrappers), phyllo dough, or ravioli dough.

Take care not to make the oil too hot. This will cause the wonton wrappers to burn too quickly. Use a thermometer to heat the oil to about 350°F.

Make sure to use an oil suitable for frying at higher temperatures. These include canola, peanut, sunflower, or corn oil.

You don’t have to use egg; you can also use water to brush around the edges. Do this if you want to make it vegan, and remember to use vegan wonton wrappers.

Serve the banana wontons with whipped cream, ice cream, or caramel sauce.

Banana Wontons Filling Ideas

You can try to pair these ingredients:

  • Cranberry preserves and brie
  • Nutella and strawberries
  • Banana and strawberries
  • Banana and blueberries
  • Chocolate spread and orange marmalade
  • Cream cheese and crushed pineapple
  • Bananas and chocolate chips
  • Marshmallow creme

You can also mash the banana and make banana “cigars” by rolling it up instead of triangular wontons.

Feel free to use any other nut butter if you want a less-sweet option. Almond butter, macadamia butter, or peanut butter will all work well.

Use plantains instead of bananas if you don’t like it as sweet!
