While it is considered healthy to include fresh juice and smoothie in our diet, but surviving merely on them in the name of detox is quite unhealthy. This is because, these liquid detoxes are deprived of proteins and fats and can leave you feeling hungry, fatigued, and brain fogged for the better part of the day, which also results in decreased productivity and low blood sugar levels.

In reality, the liver is quite well equipped to handle the detox process and does not require any special diet to enhance the detoxification process. Still, eating a diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, and beans is encouraged as it is essential for the liver to work properly.

Restricting foods

Restriction and elimination diets control the intake of certain foods and if it is not done in the right way, it can instead harm our health. These diets are beneficial only when one is checking the body for some food allergies where consumption of certain foods is restricted for a week or so and then those foods are added back in the diet to check for any signs or symptoms of allergy.

This is practiced to cleanse the digestive system of any toxins by the use of laxatives or certain therapies that removes waste present in the colon. It is extremely important that it should be done only after a physician’s recommendation as it can lead to stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, bacterial infection, electrolyte imbalance, and perforated bowels if done incorrectly.
