Fried mozzarella cheese is a tasty idea for an appetizer or an aperitif, a delicious finger food to prepare in a brief time. I suggest you use quality ingredients and, for a crunchy result, make a double breading that will make the fried mozzarella cheese even more delicious and golden, with an irresistible stringy heart inside. For this recipe you can use both the mozzarella to cut into small pieces, as we will illustrate you, or some small mozzarella cheese. However, the important thing is that they contain little water: leave them in a colander for at least an hour. It is also essential to follow all the steps well, to avoid that the mozzarella cheese open during cooking phase and serve them intact and crunchy. You can then accompany them with a salad or with the sauces you prefer. But here's how to prepare it!

How to Prepare Fried Mozzarella Cheese

Cut the mozzarella cheese into slices and then into small pieces or dice, as you prefer (1). Then put them in a colander for at least an hour, so that they lose the excess whey. Now pour the flour into a bowl, (2) the amount necessary to flour all the mozzarella cheese. Pass them in the flour covering all sides well. In a bowl, beat the eggs with a bit of salt, pepper and milk (3), and add the diced mozzarella.

Then pass all the mozzarella cheese in the breadcrumbs (4) making a double breading to make the shell more resistant and crispier: then pass again the pieces of mozzarella cheese in the egg and then in the breadcrumbs. Heat plenty of oil in a large pan: check out the temperature pouring only a bit of breadcrumbs into the oil, if it crackles then you can start to fry the mozzarella cheese by inserting a few small pieces at a time. Fry for a couple of minutes (5) or until they are golden brown. Then take them with a skimmer and place the mozzarella cheese on some oil-absorbing cooking paper. Your fried mozzarella cheese is ready to be served on the table: enjoy your morsels very hot. (6)

Alternatively, you can prepare small fried mozzarella cheese: in this case you must buy some smaller pieces of mozzarella cheese and follow the same procedure.

If you prepare fried mozzarella cheese for an aperitif you can also put them in small paper cones, the ones used for fried food, so it will be more practical for your guests to eat them.

For the perfect success of this recipe, utilize mozzarella cheese that does not contain too much water, maybe it is better to buy it the day before. In this case, remove the mozzarella cheese from its package, remove the excess water and store it in the refrigerator, to dry it.

To avoid the mozzarella cheese from opening during frying phase, be careful that they are completely coated with breading and that the oil is very hot but not boiling. For example, you can put just one piece of mozzarella: if it does not open, you can continue with frying.

How to Preserve Fried Mozzarella Cheese

To taste it at its best, the fried mozzarella cheese should be eaten immediately. But, if you wish, you can preserve the fried mozzarella cheese in the refrigerator in an airtight container for one day at most. Alternatively, you can freeze the already fried mozzarella cheese for about one month: when you want to serve them, just pull them out of the freezer and bake them in the oven.
