Here’s How To Prevent Leftover Canned Tomato Paste From Spoiling Quickly

Canned tomato paste comes in handy everyday, whether it's for a tasty bowl of pasta or a hearty broth. However, many tomato paste products come in large cans which typically means they can't be finished at once. If you have had to use canned tomato paste, then you know things go south once it's been opened. However, here is a fail-proof method to keep yours long lasting even when you can't keep the lid of the can closed anymore.

It can be very frustrating to find that your leftover tomato paste has started darkening after just one scoop. Indeed, there is nothing more discouraging than how quickly spoilage sets in after opening a canned tomato paste!

The unappetizing sight is averagely caused by leaving the can opened or half-opened while stashing it away. If the paste remains unused, the darkening quickly progresses to moldy spots as microbial growth intensifies.

Ultimately, the unsightly mess will force you to discard the paste. To avoid such wastefulness, here is a step by step guide to the appropriate storage method that'll prevent your tomato paste from spoiling.

For this method, you'll need:

  • A small storage container to store the paste.

To do:

  • Open the can of tomato paste using a can opener. Remove the circular piece of metal top that comes off.
  • Flip the can over and do the same to the other side. Do not remove the metal; instead, push the tomato paste downward until all of the contents are in the storage container, then remove the metal top.
  • Close the lid on the container tightly and store freshly for a couple of weeks.

If properly done, this method will effectively prevent penetration of air inside the container staving off spoilage. So, now you'll always have some fresh tomato paste on hand without worries of quick spoilage!
