Homemade tangerine liqueur, also known as mandarinetto, is a delicious citrus fruit liqueur best served cold at the end of a meal. This is an alternative recipe to the classic limoncello that you can serve with some delicious pastries to delight your guests. The recipe is very simple: just macerate the peels of untreated tangerines in pure alcohol, before adding the sugar syrup. Everything will then be filtered and set to rest for a month. But here are all the steps to prepare an excellent tangerine liqueur to be enjoyed all year round.

How to make Homemade Tangerine Liqueur

Wash the tangerines well and dry them with absorbent paper. With the help of a potato peeler, remove the peel, without touching the white part, which could give a bitter taste to the liqueur. Put the peels in a glass jar with a hermetic seal and add the pure alcohol.

Close the jar and let it rest in a dry and dark place for one week: shake it from time to time. After the necessary time has passed, place the sugar in a saucepan and add the water. Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously. When it comes to a boil, continue to cook for another 3 minutes.

Once ready, allow the sugar syrup to cool. Strain the alcohol through a fine-mesh strainer and add it to the sugar syrup. Stir carefully, transfer to glass bottles and seal. Let it rest for at least 1 month. Your tangerine liqueur is ready to be served.

Tips

– The most suitable tangerines for this recipe are those with thin skin: also clementine are excellent. In any case, always prefer untreated mandarins.

– If you prefer, you can flavor the mandarinetto by adding 2 cloves, which will give the liqueur a stronger flavor.

– You can also use this liqueur to flavor fruit salads and sweets.

– With the pulp of tangerines you can make a delicious tangerine jam, to enjoy for breakfast or snack for the whole family. If instead you want to use the segments, they will be excellent to decorate a fruit tart. Alternatively, you can serve them as a dessert, covered with melted dark chocolate.

How to store Homemade Tangerine Liqueur

Once ready, tangerine liqueur can be stored for a long time in the refrigerator or in the freezer: the presence of alcohol and sugar will prevent it from freezing.
