It’s such a fun dish to make and is perfect to make for the kiddos since hot dogs are usually a childhood favorite. Simply form hot dogs into hearts and place them on puff pastry. Fill with egg custard, top with mozzarella, and bake until golden. It’s easy to modify the recipe with ingredients you have available, so make sure you check out our yummy recipes below. The quiche is soft and tender, with a nice crunch from the pastry. The hot dogs add flavor and will be loved by most. Want something fun for breakfast? Try this hot dog quiche!

You can also make this Hot Dog Quiche using Bisquick too. Leave out the pastry, and mix bisquick with the filling ingredients. Alternatively, make your own puff pastry from scratch.

To make your own shortcrust pastry (often used in a quiche), you can use a food process to blend: 1 ¼ cup flour, ½ tsp salt, ½ tsp sugar, ¼ cup vegetable shortening (or lard), ¼ cup cold butter (cubed), and ¼ cup ice-cold water.

Meat variations. If you don’t have hot dogs, you can use any other protein: smoked chicken breast, cooked bacon, ham, smoked salmon, or tuna.

Cheese variations. Use any type of cheese: feta cheese, goat’s cheese, cheddar cheese, swiss cheese, or gruyere.

Vegetables. The hot dog quiche is a great way to use up leftover vegetables you have in your fridge. Try any of the following chopped vegetables: wilted spinach, steamed broccoli, roasted red peppers, sweetcorn, cubed carrots, caramelized onion, etc.

This recipe will work in a hollowed-out loaf of bread too.

Feel free to mix and match fillings to your liking. Here are a few of our favorite combinations:

  • Ham, cheese, tomato
  • Smoked chicken and feta
  • Tuna and roasted red pepper
  • Turkey bacon and broccoli
  • Pumpkin and bacon
