Soups are great meals but it can be tricky to get them to be the right consistency. If you want a soup that is thick enough, below are easy ways that help.

1.Increase the cooking time

Sometimes soup just needs some more time on the stove to reach the perfect consistency. You may check to see if the vegetables are tender, and then taste the broth. If the soup tastes a bit watery, more time is needed. But note that cooking a soup for too long can make it too salty.

2.Add Flour Or Cornstarch

Soup can be thickened by adding flour, cornstarch, or another starchy substitute. If you want the best results though, never add flour or cornstarch directly to your soup. Doing that will cause them to clump up on top. Instead, serve a small amount of broth into a separate bowl and let it cool. Add a few tablespoons of flour or cornstarch to the bowl and whisk until it's blended smooth. Then, you can add the mixture back to the pot.

3.Blend the Soup

The food processor, blender, or immersion blender,  are all great ways to thicken chunky soup recipes

They work especially well with soups that contain starchy vegetables such as potatoes, corn, or even beans. All you need to do is take a cup or two of the soup, then puree it until it's creamy and smooth. Afterward, return it to the pot and stir. This will thicken your soup while preserving the chunkiness at the same time.

4.Throw in Something Creamy

That's right, adding something thick and creamy directly to your soup will make it thicker and creamier. The options in this case are unlimited options, depending on your preferences and what you have available.

5.Add Starch

Starchy ingredients will give your soup more heft as well as a thicker texture. Some ingredients you can add to achieve this include:

a can of lentils or cannellini beans, mashing about half before you mix it in.1/2 cup rice or pasta per 4 cups of liquid, providing just enough time for it to cook before serving rice or pasta but don't add them too early as it can cause it to over-expand and thicken your soup into a stew.A crusty piece of bread too will work, just mix it into the broth but remember to allow the soup to simmer until it dissolves.
