Mummy pizzas are an easy, vegetarian appetizer recipe perfect to enjoy at a Halloween party. Slightly crisp on the edges and soft on the inside, these mini pizzas have a bread base and are topped with pizza sauce. What makes this recipe special is the fact that thanks to cheese strips and olive slices you can create a perfect mummified pizzas.

Super quick to make, you can assemble these spooky mummy pizza ahead of time and bake them just before serving. You can even customize the ingredients as you prefer. This recipe will really win everyone over, including kids.

Mummy Pizza Ingredients

Bread – we chose soft bread for this recipe. Anyway, you can also use a crusty one.

Pizza sauce – you can use store-bought pizza sauce or even make your own marinara sauce.

Cheese – use a string cheese for this recipe such as mozzarella or Edamer.

Black olives – they're perfect for making the eyes of mummy pizzas.

Seasoning – give extra flavor to the pizza sauce by adding olive oil, oregano and salt.

Tips

You replace the soft bread base with crescent rolls, English muffins, bagels or pizza dough.

You can customize this recipe as you want. You can add zucchini, eggplant or carrots strips.

For vegan mummy pizza, replace cheese with a plant-based alternative such as vegan mozzarella cheese.

For a meatier recipe, use hot dog slices for making the eyes.

How to store Mummy Pizza

You can store mummy pizzas in an airtight container in the refrigerator for one day. Before serving, reheat it in the oven for a few minutes.

Ingredients
Bread
8 slices
Pizza sauce
100 g
mozzarella cheese, cut into 7-8 mm thick strips
200 g
black olives, pitted
80 g
Extra virgin olive oil
Oregano
salt to taste

How to make Mummy Pizza

First, strip the slices of bread of the darker edges. Cut them out with a knife.

Give the slices a rectangular shape.

Season the pizza sauce with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, oregano and a pinch of salt. Mix.

Cut black olives into thin, round slices to make mummy eyes.

Spread the pizza sauce over the slices of bread. Bake at 180°C for 5 minutes.

Remove the pizzas from the oven and arrange the cheese strips on top like bandages, in order to create the mummy pattern. Cut off excess cheese from the edges with scissors.

Make the eyes of the "mummies" with the black olive slices. Bake again at 180°C for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is slightly melted.

Serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy!
