Tips

Use a gluten-free pizza dough if you want this gluten-free friendly. For a keto option, use this keto-friendly pizza base on our website.

You can make your own homemade too (use a recipe for pizza dough), but you can easily substitute it with store-bought dough. Canned biscuit dough (Pillsbury or Grands) will also work.  Don’t use waffle mix, unless you plan on making separate waffles and make a sandwich with the filling.

To make your own homemade pizza sauce, cook together: 1 can chopped tomato, 1 tbsp olive oil, 2 crushed garlic cloves, 2 tbsp tomato paste, 3 tbsp fresh basil, 2 tsp dried oregano (or 2 tbsp fresh oregano), salt, and pepper to taste. If the sauce is a bit too acidic to your taste, you can add a tsp of sugar.

Toppings that have a high moisture content need to be cooked first. This is especially the case with spinach and mushrooms.

If you don’t like salami, you can also use pepperoni, ham, cooked bacon, or Italian sausage.

If you don’t have mozzarella cheese, use any of the following: cheddar, Swiss, or Monterey Jack.

Other delicious additions include olives, bell peppers, pineapple, sliced mushrooms, smoked chicken, basil pesto, sundried tomato, and fresh herbs.

Make sure to grease your waffle maker properly. If you don’t, the dough may stick and your pizzas will fall apart!

If you’re in a pinch, you can use a panini machine or sandwich maker!

How To Store Pizza Waffles

Store the leftover pizza pizzas in an airtight container (in the fridge) for up to 3 days. Reheat them in the oven for 10 minutes at 350°F. You can also warm them in the microwave for 30 seconds. Just note they won’t be as crispy!

How To Make Pizza Waffles

Unroll the crescent dough and use a pizza wheel to divide the dough into squares (6 in total).

Spread one cup of pizza sauce on three of the dough pieces.

Add a few slices of salami on top of the pizza sauce.

Add shredded mozzarella.

Place a sheet of dough on top and close it up.

Use a fork to seal the edges.

Grease the waffle maker and heat it on medium.

Place the pizza waffle in the center of the waffle maker.

Close the lid. Cook 3 minutes. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Serve the pizza waffles with your favorite pizza sauce!
