Tips

For a classic combination, spread a bit of soft cream cheese on the pastry strips before adding the salmon strips.

If you‘d like it more herby, add a dollop of basil pesto before adding the salmon strips.

Are you a fan of tomatoes? Spread sundried tomato paste on the pastry strips before adding the salmon strips.

For a vegetarian option, use puff pastry and any of the following combinations:

Basil pesto and sautéed mushroomsSpinach and fetaCranberry and brieCaramelized onion and goats’ cheesePlain sun-dried tomatoes or pestoPumpkin and rosemaryFig and brieSquash and maple syrup

If you don’t have pistachios, you can use other nuts. Walnuts, pecans, or almonds will all work well. You don’t even have to use nuts. Sprinkle the smoked salmon sticks with sesame seeds (black or white), onion seeds, or mustard seeds (yellow or black). If you want to add more cheesy flavor, add freshly grated parmesan on top of the salmon sticks before baking.

How To Store Smoked Salmon Sticks

The Smoked Salmon Sticks won’t be as good as straight from the oven. If you want to make them ahead of time, slice the pastry strips and place the salmon on top. Cover with plastic wrap and place the fridge. Once you’re ready to bake them, twist the strips, and bake until golden.
