Today we propose you the recipe for a well-toasted sandwich richly stuffed with mozzarella cheese, sweet raw ham, tomatoes, iceberg salad and mayonnaise. It is a simple and super quick recipe, invented at the end of the Seventies in the Italian isle of Ischia and still very good. Very easy to prepare at home, it is perfect to be served during a dinner consumed on the sofa in front of a good movie or for a take-away lunch eaten on the beach or in the park.
How to prepare the stuffed sandwich
Cut the bread with a special knife making 8 slices about 2 cm thick (1).
Heat the grill and toast the bread on one side only (2).
Arrange 4 warm slices of bread on a cutting board and spread a layer of mayonnaise on top (3).
Spread a few crunchy salad leaves on each base (4).
Continue with slices of tomato maximum ½ cm thick (5).
Add the sliced mozzarella cheese and raw ham, then cover with the remaining slices of bread and heat them again on the hot grill (6).
Using a serrated knife, cut each sandwich in half while it is still hot. Distribute some basil leaves chopped with your hands (7) and serve.
To fully enjoy its flavor and typical crunchiness, it is good to prepare this stuffed sandwich and enjoy it at the moment, hot and freshly made. Alternatively, you can wrap it in cling film and store it in the refrigerator for up to 1 day.
