This Restaurant Adds A “Bad Parent Fee” To A Family’s Bill

A Georgian restaurant is taking a rather unusual approach to ensure that customers enjoy a calm ambiance when eating in. They’re imposing a special fee on families with ‘unruly kids’. Albeit uncommon, the new rule has made the restaurant viral as people get divisive over the subject.

A restaurant in Georgia recently went viral after a patron posted a picture of their menu on Reddit. The menu included classic staples you can find in a restaurant – food, fountain drinks, and a WI-FI code — however there was also something extra many had never seen before.

It was under the drinks section and it was an alert that warned customers of an "adult surcharge" for "adults unable to parent," meaning that parents with children they can't control will pay an additional fee.

How much this will be is unknown as the exact amount was not listed on the menu. The picture quickly caught attention, triggering responses from hundreds of netizens.

Many expressed dis approval, unhappy about the fact that a waiter or manager gets to decide if someone's child has been well behaved or not.

One user wrote: "If I read this at a restaurant I would probably leave."

Amomg those who have witnessed the treatment, some say they've had to pay a surcharge of up to $50.

One reddit user shared: "The owner came out and told me he was adding $50 to my bill because of my children’s behavior. My kids watched a tablet until the food arrived, ate their food and my wife took them outside while I waited and paid the bill."

"If you have children, absolutely avoid this place at all costs," another user warned.

One particularly disgruntled user recounted how terrible the experience was, claiming the owner was disrespectful and they were told to go to Walmart or Burger King instead.

The user also wrote: "They have a $50 surcharge for ‘bad children.' We were a group of 21 and our server was AMAZING and was overly apologetic. Terrible business practice, we will never be back."

Another account saw the manager warning a mother not to rock her baby within the restaurant because "you don’t do that in a fancy restaurant."

Aside from the terrible service, those who have eaten there claim the food is not good either and have urged others not to try it out.

Responses to the stories ranged from shock to anger but not everyone took issue with the restaurant's rule. There are those who think that having such a rule that penalizes "unruly kids" who ruin the experience for other paying customers could be beneficial.

"The idea of bad parents having to face actual consequences for not parenting their kids (ie. letting them run and scream around and be in the way and disturb others) is great," one user wrote.

Many other users echoed the sentiment but the larger majority believe the owner needs to find a new line of work, preferably one that doesn't involve kids.
