Tips for Making the Best Tuna Melt Sandwich

Instead of cooking your tuna melt in the skillet, you can broil the sandwich to melt the cheese. Once the sandwich is assembled, broil it for 2 to 3 minutes until the cheese melts.

Switch up the cheese for a tasty twist on this classic sandwich. Try Monterey Jack, provolone, mozzarella, gouda, Swiss, or Colby.

Other toppings to add to your tuna melt include pickles, pepperoncini, avocados, and crispy bacon.

Use any bread you like for your tuna melt sandwich. Bagels, English muffins, whole wheat, white, sourdough, ciabatta, and even tortillas are great in this recipe.

Use low-fat mayo or Greek yogurt if you want a healthier option.

How to Store Tuna Melt Sandwich Mixture

The tuna salad mixture will last up to 4 days in an airtight container in the fridge. The assembled sandwiches will last up to one day when refrigerated. Any longer, and they'll become soggy.

How to Make a Tuna Melt Sandwich

In a large bowl, combine tuna, mayo, celery, red onion, mustard, parsley, salt, and pepper.

Spread butter on one side of each piece of bread.

Flip half the bread slices so the buttered side is facing down and add the cheese.

Spread over the tuna mixture.

Top with a slice of tomato.

Add extra cheese.

Close the sandwich with a piece of bread, making sure the buttered side is facing up.

Heat a skillet over medium flame. Place a sandwich in the heated skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the cheese begins to melt.

Flip and cook for a few more minutes until golden brown.

Serve and enjoy!
