The walnut pie is a soft sweet prepared with walnut kernels to whom you can hardly say no to. It is perfect for breakfast, maybe dipped in cappuccino or tea, or also eaten alone or as a dessert. There are also many delicious variations to choose from, for example you can add chocolate to the dough, but the original recipe, traditional and simple, is always the best.
How to Make the Walnut Cake
Shell the walnuts (1) (2). Put a cutting board on a table, and then a rag with the walnut kernels on it. Crush and slowly powder them (3).
In a bowl put the butter and cover it with sugar (4). Add the milk (5) and blend with a fork until you get a cream (6).
Add the egg and the yolk (7). Sift the wholewheat flour and add it to the dough (8). To avoid lumps, it must be very thin (9).
After sifting it, add the vanilla baking powder (10), and then continue to crush the walnut kernels (11) until you like the solidity (12).
Add crushed walnuts (13) and bitter cocoa powder to the mixture (14). Blend, and then butter an hinged baking pan. Pour the mixture in it (15) and bake at 180° C with a static oven for 30 minutes. Before serving it, sprinkle the cake with powdered sugar.
The walnut cake can be preserved under a glass bell for up to two or three days after preparation.
