1.5 cl

1 tsp

The whiskey sour is a refreshing and delicate cocktail made with bourbon whiskey, lemon juice, sugar and egg white. It's the main drink among the sour cocktails, those drinks consisting of a distilled spirit and a sour mix based on a combination of sugar, water and lemon. The whiskey sour was prepared for the first time back in 1827 and it became so popular because of its refreshing flavor and low alcohol content that make it the perfect drink or aperitif to enjoy before lunch or dinner with friends.

The secret of the whiskey sour lies in the simplicity and in the very short list of good quality ingredients. The perfect whiskey is a bourbon whiskey whose slightly smoky flavor is exalted and balanced by lemon juice. It's a cocktail with a great taste, served in an old fashioned glass filled with ice, which never goes out of fashion and has no rivals among  sour drinks.

How to make Whiskey Sour

Squeeze and filter the juice of one lemon.

Fill a shaker with ice, pour the whiskey, lemon juice, sugar syrup and egg white. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds.

Pour into an old fashioned glass filled with ice, filtering with a narrow mesh strainer.

Garnish a lemon peel or a maraschino cherry. Serve and enjoy!

Tips

To make the perfect whiskey sour, you need to choose good quality ingredients. The whiskey must be a bourbon whiskey and the lemon must be ripe at the right point to avoid its acid note covering the rest of the flavors.

The original recipe calls for granulated sugar, but in this recipe we use sugar syrup for a more delicate consistency and a more homogeneous mixture.

If you prefer, you can leave out egg white.

Whiskey Sour Variants

The best known variant of whiskey sour is Vodka sour, a simple and refreshing drink.
