Eating a balanced diet, regular sleep, and 30 minutes of exercise each day are the first steps you can take in order to live healthier. Here we have list of thinks that can make you fat and others that won’t.

Coffee

Your typical Americano won’t do much to your waistline, but if you regularly drink other coffee beverages from your local Starbucks, you might be doing more harm than good. Many flavored coffee beverages are made with sugar syrups and cream – all unnecessary calories you can do without. Rather go for unflavored coffee with no cream.

Ice cream

Read the label on most ice cream packages and you will find it’s full of sugar and fate, which means you end up adding unnecessary calories to your diet. Rather enjoy it occasionally instead of on a regular basis, or make your own “nice cream” by blitzing a frozen banana with a few dates in a food processor.

Pizza

Unless you make your own homemade pizza, it will likely ruin your diet. Fast food pizzas are loaded with cheese and overly processed meats (both high in fat). And while pizza is high fat, refined carbohydrates, and calories, it’s very low in fiber. So you’re doing a lot of damage to your health if you eat it regularly.

Cookies and pastries

Baked goods like cookies, doughnuts, and muffins all have a high amount of sugar, refined carbohydrate, and of course, fats. Even a small bite can pack a punch of calories, which makes it difficult to control your calorie intake. In fact, one doughnut can rack up to 300 calories! Rather opt for pitted dates or dark chocolate if you have cravings for something sweet.

Potato chips

Who doesn’t love potato chips? We all do! But they’re really not a good option if you’re looking to lose weight. They’re high in fat, refined carbohydrates, and some even have a lot of sugar! Previous scientific studies found it to be one of the foods that are most likely to cause weight gain. Rather choose nuts as a snack.

Foods that won’t make you fat…

Boiled potatoes

You might need to stay away from potato chips, but that doesn’t mean you have to avoid all forms of potatoes! Potatoes are loaded with fiber, vitamins and minerals. They also contain resistant starch, which helps to keep you fuller for longer. Make sure to boil or steam them instead of frying, and they’re a perfectly good option for your menu!

Eggs

Eggs have gotten a bad rap for a number of years, but it’s actually one of the healthiest foods on the planet! They’re considered a complete protein (which means they contain all nine essential amino acids) and they are also more filling. Studies have shown that when you eat a egg for breakfast (as opposed to cereal), you are less likely to snack later during the day.

Soups

There’s good reason why so many diets include various forms of soup. Soup is a great way to get all the nutrients you need without the added calories. You should obviously avoid cream-based soups, which can be heavy and fattening. Opt for broth-based soups which are satisfying and chock full of nutrients.

Legumes

There’s a legume for everyone, no matter what you like to eat. They are filling and high in fiber, but are also low in calories at the same time – which means they’re perfect for weight loss! Choose between beans, peas, lentils, and chickpeas. You can even roast chickpeas until crispy and eat them as a snack.

Apples

It seems that the old saying is right…an apple a day does keep the doctor away, and it keeps calories away too! Many studies have shown that those who eat apples on a regular basis are more likely to consume less calories over time. This is probably because it contains pectin, a type of fiber that helps you stay fuller for longer. They are also a powerhouse of nutrients, so if you feel like a snack, you can’t go wrong with an apple!
