Eggs are the go-to food for lots of people when they want something inexpensive, tasty and filling. They are full of nutrients, and although they are the breakfast food of choice for many, they can be eaten at any time of day, and added to recipes as well as enjoyed by themselves.

Eggs aren’t just for eating, though; they have many more uses around the home and as part of your beauty routine. Here’s 8 ways to make the most of the humble egg:

1. Anti-Aging Cleanser

Egg whites contain lots of proteins, and make a great facial cleanser. Whisk up an egg white with a little water, apply it to your face and then wash off. You’ll find that your skin feels tighter and less puffy.

2. Moisturizer

Egg yolks are rich in vitamin A, which is very good for skin. Whisk up two egg yolks with a little water and apply to your skin. Wash off, and your skin will feel moisturized and rejuvenated.

3. Hair Conditioning Mask

Whisk up two eggs with a little olive oil. If you have dry hair, just use the yolks. Once it’s frothy, apply to your hair. Put your hair under a shower cap and leave the mixture on for 20 minutes.

Rinse it off and shampoo well. If you don’t like the smell of raw eggs, you can add some scented oil to the mixture before applying.

4. Plant Fertilizer

Whenever you hard boil eggs, leave the water to cool and then use it to water your plants. Eggshells contain a large amount of calcium, and this will help your plants to grow.

5. First Aid

If you cut yourself, boil an egg, then peel off the shell and the thin white membrane between the eggshell and the egg. This membrane can help stem bleeding, and also reduce the risk of scarring when you apply it to your cut or scrape.

6. Leather Cleaner

Whisk up an egg white and rub it gently into the leather that you want to clean. Wipe it off with a damp cloth, and you should have clean leather. The egg white will also give it extra shine.

7. Hangover Cure

8. Homemade Craft Glue

Mix flour, water, sugar and alum with an egg white, and you have a homemade glue that’s ideal for crafting.
