Flaxseeds are tiny, deep brown colored seeds that are low in calories, high in fiber and plant-based omega-3 fatty acid content. Each tablespoon of flaxseed provides merely 37 calories, 2g fiber, and about 1g of protein.

These seeds have a nutty taste, just like the other variety of seeds. It is only until recently, about 15 years or so, that this seed has gained popularity regarding its health benefits. Because of which, people have made many baseless claims regarding its effect on our body. However, there is just a limited number of studies regarding the effect of flax seeds in weight loss.

According to some studies conducted on mice, there is promise in a diet comprising of flax seed and flax seed oil in regards to weight loss. However, the most logical association between flax seeds and weight loss could be because of the high fiber content of these seeds.

So, this is by far the most practical basis for the association between these tiny seeds and weight loss as there are not enough studies on humans to support this claim.
