Chocolate mice are a fun, kid-friendly dessert perfect for the holidays such as Halloween and Christmas. These sweet treats are made of chocolate cookie crumbs, sour cream, and melted chocolate, then shaped like a mouse.

With a soft, creamy inside, use smarties for the ears, silver sprinkles to create the nose and eyes, and gums for the tail. It's a cute recipe you can also make ahead with kids and customize as you want. Just be creative!

How to make Chocolate Mice

Making this recipe is easier than it looks. Melt the chocolate in the microwave, then add it to a bowl with sour cream and chocolate cookie crumbs. Stir, cover and let it thicken in the refrigerator for half an hour.

Next, take a spoonful of the mixture and form an oval with your hands to create the body of the mice. Add eyes of silver sprinkles, ears of smarties and tail of gums. Serve!

How to decorate Chocolate Mice

We decorated these chocolate mice with colored smarties, flavored gums and silver sprinkles. Anyway, you can customize this recipe as you want.

Ears – you can use smarties, almond slices, or halved peanuts.

Tail – you can use flavored gums, or licorice string.

Nose – you can use silver sprinkles as we did, or add a dot of melted white chocolate with a toothpick.


For making white chocolate mice, use basic cookie crumbs and white chocolate for this recipe.

For a shortcut, you can also make chocolate-covered maraschino cherries like mice. You can even add the snouts by adding Harshey chocolate kisses.

How to store Chocolate Mice

You can store chocolate mice in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Dark Chocolate
80 g
Sour cream
80 g (1/4 cup)
chocolate cookie crumbs
120 g (1 1/4 cups)
silver sprinkles
flavored gums


Pour the chocolate into a bowl and transfer to the microwave for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes stir the chocolate with a spatula to melt it.

Add the sour cream and mix.

Stir the chocolate cookie crumbs.

Mix until all is well combined. Cover and refrigerate until firm (for about 30 minutes).

After 30 minutes take the mixture with the spoon and roll it with your hand to create a small ball.

Roll the ball on the cutting board and with the help of your hands create the shape of the mouse.

On each mouse, place dragees in the appropriate spot for the eyes and nose, smarties for ears.

Add flavored gums for the tail.

Transfer to the plate and serve.
