It is important to wash the fruits and vegetables thoroughly before consuming them. Here are some of the fruits and vegetables that you might not be washing correctly.

Frozen foods

Frozen fruits and vegetables must be washed thoroughly and then used for cooking to get rid of any bacteria or dirt present on them.


Rice should be ideally rinsed 3 to 4 times before cooking.

Oysters and mussels

It is important to wash this shelled seafood thoroughly with clean water, even if you are using its frozen alternatives.


It is beneficial to wash packets of any liquid dairy or yogurt before opening them as these food items are handled by many people before reaching you.


Raw fish need not be washed as cooking at high temperature kills all the bacteria present on it.

Cruciferous vegetables

Remove the outermost 2 layers of cabbage and then wash it thoroughly. You can place cabbage of all colors in a sink filled with water and some vinegar for a few minutes to get rid of bugs and bacteria. Regarding cauliflower and broccoli, you have to clean it both before and after cutting it into pieces.

Canned beverages

Always wipe the top of canned beverages well both before sipping directly from the can and before pouring the contents of the can into another container.


All green leafy vegetables should be soaked in clean cold water for a few minutes before using them.


You can soak apples in a solution of some water with baking soda for about 10 minutes to get rid of the chemicals present on the outer layer of this fruit.
