Often, we buy fruit and vegetables according to the nutritionist's indications or following our preferences, but did you know that each color indicate certain properties? In fact, there are many benefits associated to the colors, that's why you can choose fruit and vegetables according to the color of the peel.

White: it is the case of fruit such as pears and white peaches, or fennel, garlic, onion, potatoes, cauliflower and leeks. They are foods often rich in potassium and if taken regularly they are able to lower cholesterol. Moreover consuming white fruits and vegetables, you can increase your immune defenses and fight seasonal illnesses.

Orange-yellow: fruits like oranges, pineapples, tangerines and vegetables like pumpkin, peppers and carrots are foods rich in vitamins and beta-carotene, essential for the health of eyes and mucous membranes. In addition they contain vitamin C which stimulates the production of collagen, fighting the signs of aging with antioxidant properties; moreover these foods have also important properties for the health of bones and joints.

Red: tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, onions, apples, pomegranate, blueberries, but also radicchio, turnips, and radishes are foods often rich in lycopene that seems to be responsible for reducing the risk of getting cancer. They also have antioxidant properties and lower blood pressure, therefore they are excellent also for the health of the heart.

Green: asparagus, broccoli, artichokes, lettuce, cucumber, zucchini for vegetables and kiwis, green apples, avocados, lime and grapes; green foods are able to stimulate the immune system, as well as improve health of the eyes and be a source of folic acid which is important during pregnancy to prevent malformations of the fetus.

Blue-violet: eggplants, blueberries, figs, blackberries, grapes, plums and prunes provide a good antioxidant effect. Blueberries in particular are important for proper blood circulation and to fight the signs of aging. These foods are also rich in carotenoids, potassium and magnesium.
