Their famed slogan changed recently

Who doesn’t know the familiar KFC slogan ‘It’s Finger Lickin’ Good’? It was coined by one of the company’s franchisees, Dave Harman, back in the 1950s, and has been popular ever since. But in 2011, they decided to change it to ‘So Good’. Why? Because according to Martin Shuker, the chief executive of KFC UK, it focuses only on the food. And they want to focus on the business as a whole – on the brand, the workforce, and the community. They also want to concentrate on healthier alternatives. And let’s face it, licking chicken grease off your fingers doesn’t really fit into that picture.

They launched a unique cheese top burger in the Philippines

In 2012, KFC launched a burger in the Philippines that seemed somewhat ‘inside-out’. Instead of putting the cheese inside the burger, they placed a slice on top of the burger and baked it. Many thought it would be sticky and greasy, and therefore difficult to eat. But because the cheese is baked, it sets on the bun, making it non-sticky. What’s the benefit of cheese on top? Marketing manager, Errol Magdato, says it makes the bread “cheesier and tastier”. We won’t disagree, bread and cheese always taste good!

The Japanese are HUGE fans of KFC

After the US and China, the Japanese are the biggest consumers of KFC. They love it so much, that it’s somewhat of a tradition to eat KFC at Christmas. This is all thanks to great marketing in 1974. They created a party barrel that would be sold on Christmas and not long after that, “Kentucky Christmas” became a favorite tradition across the nation.

But that’s not the only way KFC is celebrated in Japan. In Osaka, they have an all-you-can eat buffet, where you get one hour to eat all the KFC your stomach can handle. Not only do they have the famous fried chicken, but they also offer pastas, salads, and other menu items. You can even add an all-you-can drink beer option to the fee. Unlimited beer AND fried chicken? We’re up for the challenge!
