The common belief about broccoli is that the head is the only part useful for cooking. Many do not understand that the stalk can be cooked in numerous ways and is just as delicious. More importantly, the broccoli stalks are super-packed with essential vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber and are also very low in calories.

Below, we have outlined some ways you can prepare them deliciously.

1. In Salads

One of the best ways to enjoy your vegetable is raw and accompanied by a couple of others. That also applies to broccoli stems. Make a delicious salad consisting of broccoli, kale, and some of your favorite greens for a tasty meal. Toss the combo with your favorite seasoning or condiments and perhaps some chicken for a filling meal.

2. Eat Them Raw

Just like you would for carrot sticks, you can clean broccoli stalks and cut them lengthwise to enjoy with your favorite dips.

3. Ferment Them

Do you love pickles? Then make some nutritious broccoli pickles! All you have to do is clean the stalks, cut them lengthwise, add salt, and then transfer them to a jar to ferment. Refrigerate this jar for several hours, then take it out and drain the water collected at the bottom of the jar. Add some garlic, vinegar, and olive oil to it and toss it all together. The pickles can be refrigerated for several more hours, and they are ready to be eaten!

4. Vegetable Stock

Instead of discarding your broccoli stalks, make them into a vegetable stock. This can be applied to your least favorite or excess vegetables. To prepare, add the vegetables to a pot of boiling water and let it simmer on low heat for a long while to allow the nutritional components to seep out into the water. Save the water to use as vegetable stock to augment the taste of your soups and dishes.

5. Add Them To Soups

Like most other vegetables, broccoli stalks can be added to soups. To prepare, clean the stalks and remove all the little outgrowths of the stem before chopping them into bite-sized pieces and pouring them into the soup.

6. Vegetable Stir Fry

Vegetable stir fry is a delicious accompaniment for nearly any dish. Alongside bell peppers, capsicum, corn, and cauliflower, broccoli stalks can be stir-fried to make a filling dish. The stir fry can then be eaten with rice, quinoa, or noodles.
