The kringle is of Scandinavian origin, and its name is due to its form, since kringle comes from the Old Norse kringla, and its meaning is ring, hoop or circle. It is said to be a Nordic variety of the pretzel but the truth is that I see much more personality to the kringle, it is also said that it is the Nordic kings roscón, although the recipe comes to Denmark through the Christian monks who came to Scandinavian lands in an evangelizing mission. But whatever it is, I assure you that it is a kind of stuffed bread (sweet or savory) delicious and that in addition to please our palates especially adorns the table in the Christmas festivities, since its final finish It is very good It is a tradition to introduce a coin when baking it and one who has the happiness of bumping into it is predicted good luck for next year.

Nowadays the fillings are very varied, I am going to share with you the recipe of the Christmas marzipan Kringle. Enjoy it!

For the homemade almond Christmas marzipan, the first thing to do is to prepare all the ingredients. This recipe is ideal for the little ones since they can help you to elaborate the forms that you like the most. In a deep pot, put two cups of water, when boiling, add the almonds and turn off the kitchen. Drain the liquid and put the almonds on a dry cloth, rub with the kitchen cloth until the shell is removed from all the almonds. To rinse the almonds to remove any residue.

Put the almonds in a tray for baking. Bake at very low temperature for about 20 minutes to dry the almonds. When the almonds are at room temperature, place in the food processor and grind until you get almond flour. These steps could be optional if you buy the almond flour already ready. In that case, you must carefully select that the flour is very light in color and the almonds do not have the crust. Then mix the almond flour with the egg yolks, the essence of almonds, the lemon drops and the confectioner's sugar. Knead until you have a homogeneous mixture. Separate in two spheres of the same size and refrigerate for 30 minutes. The puff pastry is usually an elongated roll.

Separate in two parts and spread on a flat surface with a little flour. Undo the marzipan in crumbs with your hands and spread evenly over the dough. Roll the dough as shown in the photograph. Cut ⅔ of the roll lengthwise in half with a sharp knife and twist the two parts together.

Join the ends forming a circle, repeat with half the mass and remaining marzipan. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes or until the kringle is golden brown. Remove from oven and let stand. Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar to decorate.
