By Cookist

Looking for an easy and appetizing recipe? Then these tramezzini rolls are just for you! Tramezzini are Italian finger sandwiches that are very similar to English sandwiches enjoyed at tea time. Made with soft white bread and fillings like tomato, mozzarella, and mayonnaise, it’s most often enjoyed as a snack item between breakfast and lunch (and perfect for a picnic or lunch box!). To make these tramezzini rolls, you’ll only need four ingredients: sandwich bread, mayonnaise, salad, and tuna. It’s quick to put together, and even easier to enjoy. The fresh flavors are perfect for the warmer weather.

What Are Tramezzini

Tramezzini are a sort of finger sandwich, most often enjoyed as a snack of “aperitivo”. They’re usually made with soft, crustless white bread spread with cold fillings. They are usually served in a triangular shape, but can also be cut into rolls.

Tramezzini Roll Ingredients

Sandwich bread – look for the freshest bread you can find!

Mayonnaise – it’s essential to use good quality mayonnaise.

Salad – use any salad you like (see our tips below for suggestions)

Tuna – tuna in oil will have better flavor

How To Make Tramezzini Rolls

These tramezzini roles come together quickly. Place the bread slices on a clean working surface. Use a rolling pin to flatten the bread. This will help the slices stick to each other. Spread the mayonnaise (or cream cheese if using) on top of the bread, making sure that it's completely covered. Add the lettuce, then top with the tuna mayo mixture. Roll the bread tightly, making sure that none of the fillings spill out. To serve, slice into thick slices.

Tramezzini Rolls Variations

There are many delicious variations you can use. Here are some of our favorites.

Prosciutto, boiled egg, and parmesan. Olives, tuna, and egg. Mozzarella, tomato, and basil. Peppers and goat’s cheeseTuna, capers, and lemon zest. Sliced cucumbers and cream cheese.

If you prefer a bit of crunch, use Iceberg lettuce. If you prefer a peppery flavor, use greens like arugula (rocket).

Don’t use tuna in water, you run the risk of making the bread soggy.

Want to make these rolls even better? Use homemade mayonnaise!

How to Store Tramezzini Rolls

Store the tramezzini rolls in the fridge for up to two days. They’re not suitable for freezing.

Can I Make It Ahead of Time?

Because the tramezzini rolls can be stored in the fridge, it's great for making ahead of time. Assemble the roll, wrap with plastic wrap and store in the fridge until you're ready to serve.

Place the sandwich bread slices next to each other slightly overlapping. Press the bread with the rolling pin to make them stick better.

Sandwich bread

Spread the whole rectangle you created with mayonnaise.

Put the salad on top of the mayonnaise, making sure to cover the entire surface.

Mix the tuna with the mayonnaise and arrange it on top of the salad.

Gently roll the bread with your hands, being careful not to let the filling of the sandwich roll out.

Wrap the roll with cling film and transfer it to the fridge for 1 hour.

Decorate the sandwich roll with mayonnaise and rocket salad, cut it into slices, and serve.
