The Zucchini Ham Mozzarella Rolls are a delicious and nice appetizer you can serve at a standing dinner, a buffet or an aperitif with friends. They are made with the same dough as the pizza which, once rolled out, is greedily stuffed, cut into slices and then baked in the oven until golden brown.
The final result will be a fragrant, savory roll, au gratin on the surface thanks to the addition of grated cheese, but with a soft and stringy heart. So let’s find out how to prepare the rolls with mozzarella cheese, zucchini and raw ham in a few simple steps.
To speed up the preparation time, you can replace the brewer's yeast with the instant powder yeast (suitable for savory preparations); alternatively, you can buy ready-made pizza dough in the supermarket fridge. You can also prepare the rolls using the puff pastry.
The pizza sheet can be stuffed with your favorite ingredients. You can replace the mozzarella with smoked scamorza or provola and raw ham with cooked ham or with mortadella or spicy salami.
How to store Zucchini Ham Mozzarella Rolls
The rolls with mozzarella cheese, zucchini and raw ham can be placed in a container, lined with absorbent kitchen paper, and stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours; when consuming them, heat them in the microwave oven or normal oven.
You can also freeze them as soon as they are cooked and, when needed, take them out of the freezer and heat them in the oven.
How to make Zucchini Ham Mozzarella Rolls
In a large bowl pour the water, add the brewer's yeast and sugar, then melt well; add the flour, oil and salt and knead for at least 10 minutes (1), until the mixture is smooth and homogeneous.
Form a loaf (2) and cover the surface with a sheet of cling film or a clean cloth.
Meanwhile, cut the zucchini with a potato peeler to obtain thin slices (3).
Cut the mozzarella cheese into slices that are not too thick (4).
After the leavening time, roll out the dough into a sheet about 3-4 mm thick; arrange the zucchini on top, leaving a border of at least 2 cm on each side (5).
