Turmeric, for long, has been used to prepare beautifully colored food preparations. However, that is just a tip of the iceberg, it has been also used for ages for the antibiotic and anti-inflammatory purposes. Here are 9 other interesting ways to use this super food.

For beautification. Make a pack of 2 tablespoons turmeric powder with 1 teaspoon honey, ¼ teaspoon of lemon juice, and ½ teaspoon of olive oil. Apply it gently over areas with acne, psoriasis, eczema, and wrinkles to heal them and reduce scars caused by these problems.

For dental health. Sprinkle a little turmeric powder over the toothpaste and then brush with it to get whiter teeth.

As a make-up. Add a glow to your skin tone by adding little turmeric powder to any tinted moisturizer. This treatment works well for people with darker skin tone or tanned skin. Apart from that, add this spice to body scrubs and face creams to give the darker skin a natural color boost.

To control dandruff. Prepare a hair mask by mixing 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder in a ¼ cup of warm coconut or olive oil. Apply it all over the scalp and shampoo it off after 15 minutes of application.

Relieve sprain. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to 2 teaspoons of turmeric powder and mix it well with enough water to make a spreadable paste. Apply this paste on the sprained joint and wrap it up with a cloth for an hour.

Disinfect wounds. You can also disinfect some minor cuts and wounds by applying a mixture of turmeric powder with coconut oil or water over it. Turmeric is known to fight inflammation, infection, and speeds up recovery from illnesses.

Treat symptoms of cold and flu. Drink a glass of warm milk mixed with a teaspoon of turmeric powder to get relief from the symptoms of cold and flu. Turmeric has the active ingredient curcumin, which is beneficial to fight the harmful bacteria and repair damage caused by them.


Increase longevity. Drink turmeric tea every day and prepare it by boiling 4 cups of water with 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder. Let this tea simmer for 10 minutes, strain the tea, and enjoy it with some honey and grated ginger.

To dye fabric. Boil a pot of water with 3 tablespoons of turmeric powder. Add the item you wish to dye in it and let it simmer for another 15 to 20 minutes, rinse and then dry the fabric.
