When preparing your suitcase for the holidays, don't forget to add a kit of essential oils, which can be valuable allies for our well-being, both physical and mental. It can indeed happen on the road to suffer from car or ship or flight sickness, or to feel sick after eating typical dishes, or having to soothe annoying mosquito bites. In each of these cases we can resort to specific essential oils, from that of lavender to that of ginger, each with its peculiarities capable of heal on many occasions. But let's find out what are some of the essential oils to take on vacation, small bottles of wellness to put in your suitcase.

Why put essential oils in your suitcase and how to use them

Essential oils are excellent natural remedies to take on the road: we can in fact choose between different essences that can also be used in combination for different situations. You will only need to bring a few bottles of carrier oil: olive oil, sweet almond oil or jojoba oil, to which you can mix the essential oils used to massage the skin. Furthermore, the essential oil bottles do not take up too much space in the suitcase. If you have to take the plane, place the bottles in your hand luggage in a transparent bag: the bottles should be 100 ml and in total you should not exceed 1 liter.

As for use, all essential oils must be diluted in base oil, water or cream, if spread on the skin. But they can also be used in the bath or inhaled, especially in the event of stress and tension. Before using them, always consult your doctor, especially if you take medication or if you suffer from any disease. But here's which essential oils should not be missing in your suitcase.

Lavender essential oil: to reduce stress and reduce sunburn

Among the oils that can not be missing there is the essential oil of lavender, as it can be useful on several occasions. You can inhale it if you are afraid of flying: put 2 drops on a handkerchief with 1 drop of geranium essential oil, so as to face the journey without fear. In case of accentuated symptoms, pour a few drops on the palms of your hands, rub and breathe. It also works in case of car or train or ship sickness. Once used you can store it in a plastic bag, so as to preserve its fragrance and use it when you feel a state of tension. If the flight is long, and legs and ankles start to swell, prepare a massage oil: add 5 drops of lavender essential oil in a bottle with vegetable oil, and perform the massage starting from the feet up to the legs. Against swollen legs, you can also use helichrysum essential oil, which performs the same function. If, on the other hand, when you return from the sea, you have reddened skin, dilute the lavender oil in almond oil and gently massage on the affected area.

Tea Tree essential oil: excellent as a sanitizer and insect repellent

Tea tree oil is instead useful as a sanitizer, disinfectant and more. You can then use it to clean the bathroom of your holiday home or hotel: put 2-3 drops on a damp cloth and wipe it over the surfaces. You can also add a few drops to the laundry water, so as to eliminate odors and bacteria. As a natural disinfectant, on the other hand, it is useful in case of minor injuries and excoriations, but also to disinfect the hands when you are unable to wash them. Tea tree oil is also effective against itching caused by insect bites and as a repellent.

Chamomile essential oil against heat stroke and insomnia

The essential oil of chamomile is instead useful to combat heat stroke, due to sun exposure. If you want to prevent sunburn, you can mix the essential oil of chamomile, geranium and lavender, to add to jojoba oil and massage on the skin. If, on the other hand, you suffer from insomnia, put a few drops of chamomile essential oil on a handkerchief together with a drop of lavender essential oil, and smell: you will fall asleep in no time. In case of toothache, instead, add a couple of drops of essential eucalyptus oil, put the drops in a vegetable oil and and massage the affected area of the cheek.
