Age spots (also known as liver spots), are small, highly pigmented areas on the skin, and they are usually seen on face, hands, shoulders and arms – anywhere on the body that is often exposed to the sun.
The spots become common in people over the age of 40, but they can also be caused by overexposure to UV rays or by genetics. They can be unsightly, but are usually harmless and don’t need treatment.
The remedies for age spots include lasers, chemical peels, dermabrasion, freezing and medication. The natural treatments you can do at home include lemon juice, yogurt, aloe vera juice and papaya.
Here’s some of the best home remedies for combating age spots:
1. Lemon Juice and Yogurt
Lemon juice and yogurt help to lighten age spots because they act as bleaching agents, and the citric acid and antioxidants in lemon also help to fade pigmentation.
2. Castor Oil
If your age spots feel rough in texture, apply castor oil to them twice a day for a few months. This should help them to smooth out and improve their appearance.
3. Onion and Apple Cider Vinegar
Onions are a good treatment for age spots. Blend up an onion and drain the liquid off into a bowl. Mix an equal amount of apple cider vinegar to the liquid and mix. Apply to the age spots using a swab or cotton wool ball.
4. Aloe Vera Juice

6. Olive Oil and Vinegar

Rub some papaya pulp directly on the spots, and wash off after 15-20 minutes. Use daily for best results.
8. Orange Juice and Apple Cider Vinegar
2-3 spoons of orange juice can be mixed in half a spoon of apple cider vinegar and applied to the age spots. Do this daily for around a month, and you should see results.
